Boston run coach. In person on the Charles, or remote anywhere.

I'm Breno Melo — Boston-based running coach since 2015, 12× Boston Marathon qualifier, RRCA certified. 500+ athletes coached from first 5K to sub-2:50 marathon. I coach runners across Greater Boston in person and athletes worldwide remotely.

Why a Boston-based coach matters

Most online running coaches send the same threshold workout to an athlete in Phoenix and an athlete in Boston. That ignores the two things that actually shape your training: terrain and weather. Boston gives you 5 months of single-digit windchill, a humid summer, hills that don't appear on flat marathon courses, and the most demanding amateur marathon in the world sitting in your backyard.

I coach to the conditions you actually train in. Indoor track work at the Reggie Lewis when the river path is iced over. Dew-point-adjusted paces from July through early September. Newton Hills built into every Boston build. Long runs that meet at the Hatch Shell. The training fits the city.

Where we train

Six routes I use most often with Boston athletes. The roster usually meets Saturday mornings at the Hatch Shell for long runs and Tuesday evenings in Newton during Boston builds.

Charles River Esplanade

Flat 17-mile loop — long runs and aerobic volume

Newton Hills (Comm Ave)

Heartbreak Hill repeats and Boston-specific work

Chestnut Hill Reservoir

1.55-mile loop — mile repeats and threshold

Jamaica Pond

1.5-mile loop, soft surface — recovery and easy days

Reggie Lewis Center

Indoor 200m track — winter speed work

Middlesex Fells

Trail long runs and hill strength

Neighbourhoods I coach
