Boston qualifier calculator.
Enter your age on Boston race day and your division. You get the published BAA standard, the buffer the actual cutoff history says you need, the pace to run it, and equivalent 5K, 10K and half marathon times.
Age band: 40–44
The BAA applies the women's standards to the non-binary division.

Equivalent race times
Riegel-equivalent performances. If you can run these, the marathon time is realistic on a flat course with a full build behind it.
| Distance | At the standard | At the target |
|---|---|---|
| 5K | 0:19:17 | 0:18:46 |
| 10K | 0:40:13 | 0:39:08 |
| Half marathon | 1:28:44 | 1:26:20 |
Why the buffer is 5:00
It is not a guess. It is the larger of the most recent accepted cutoff (4:34 for 2026) and the five-year average of accepted cutoffs, rounded up to the next whole minute.

Boston qualifier FAQ
What Boston qualifying time do I need?
Your standard is set by your age on race day and your gender. Under the standards in effect for the 2026 and 2027 races, men 18–34 need 2:55:00 and women and non-binary athletes 18–34 need 3:25:00. Enter your age above to get your exact standard.
How much faster than the standard should I run?
Based on the accepted cutoffs from 2019 to 2026, this calculator recommends a buffer of 5:00. That is the larger of the most recent accepted cutoff (4:34 for 2026) and the five-year average, rounded up to the next whole minute.
Does the BAA have a non-binary standard?
Yes. The BAA recognises non-binary athletes as a registration category and applies the women's qualifying standards to that division.
Is the qualifying standard enough to get in?
No. In most years more qualifiers apply than there are time-qualifier bibs, so the BAA accepts fastest-first within each age group and cuts the field where it fills. The 2026 race required 4:34 under the standard.
Which age do I use?
Your age on the day of the Boston Marathon you are applying for — not your age on the day of your qualifying race.

BAA published qualifying standards plus registration-cutoff history
Qualified = finish time ≤ BAA standard for age on race day and gender. Likely accepted = finish time ≤ standard − observed cutoff, where the cutoff is the margin by which the field was oversubscribed in a given year.
- Your qualifying race was a BAA-certified course inside the qualifying window.
- Your age is taken as of Boston Marathon race day, not the date of the qualifier.
- Future cutoffs will fall in the range set by recent years — the BAA does not publish one in advance.
- The cutoff is not a standard. It is decided after registration closes and has ranged from 0:00 to more than 20 minutes.
- Meeting the standard has never guaranteed entry in an oversubscribed year.
Not a physiological model. Standards are the BAA's published figures; cutoffs are the BAA's published post-registration results.

How the BQ target is calculated
The standard comes from the current BAA table for your age on race day and your division, including the non-binary standard.
The recommended buffer is derived from the actual cutoff history rather than guesswork — recent years have required several minutes under the standard to gain entry.
Goal pace and equivalent times at other distances are then generated so you can check whether the target matches your current fitness.
