Head Coach · Coaching since 2015

Breno Melo. IRONMAN coach, marathon coach, 12× Boston qualifier.

I'm Breno — head coach at Breno Melo Endurance Coaching, based in Fenway, Boston. USAT, RRCA, and TrainingPeaks Level 2 certified. Four-time IRONMAN World Championship qualifier, IRONMAN 70.3 champion, twelve-time Boston Marathon qualifier, 18+ race wins. I've coached 500+ athletes since 2015 across triathlon, marathon, ultra, and trail.

My story

I started racing triathlon at Boston University as part of the BU Triathlon team. The sport stuck. I went from an age-grouper trying to break four hours in a 70.3 to a 70.3 overall champion and four-time IRONMAN World Championship qualifier across three age groups.

Along the way I qualified for Boston twelve times, racked up 18+ race wins, and ran the regional run programme at Lifetime Fitness. I started coaching in 2015 because the athletes around me kept asking — and because the people writing the best programmes were the ones who'd raced the distance and could explain why.

Today the roster is split between local Boston athletes — Walden Pond swims, Charles River brick runs, Hanscom bike loops — and remote athletes from London to São Paulo to Sydney. Same weekly cadence, same race-week protocols, same standard.

Frequently asked questions

Who is Breno Melo?

Breno Melo is a Boston-based endurance coach specializing in IRONMAN triathlon, marathon, and run coaching. He is a 4× IRONMAN World Championship qualifier, IRONMAN 70.3 champion, 12× Boston Marathon qualifier, and has coached 500+ athletes since 2015. He holds USAT, RRCA, and TrainingPeaks Level 2 certifications.

What are Breno Melo's coaching credentials?

USA Triathlon (USAT) Certified Coach, RRCA Certified Running Coach, TrainingPeaks Level 2 Coach, and B.S. Exercise Science. As an athlete, he is a 4× Kona qualifier, IRONMAN 70.3 champion, and 12× Boston Marathon qualifier with 18+ race wins.

Does Breno Melo coach remotely or only in Boston?

Both. About a quarter of the roster trains in-person in Greater Boston (Walden Pond, Charles River, Hanscom Field). The majority are remote athletes across the US, Brazil, Europe, and Australia — coached via TrainingPeaks, weekly video calls, and unlimited messaging.

What is Breno Melo's coaching philosophy?

Race-first periodisation. The calendar is built backwards from your A-race — its date, course profile, and weather — then matched to your life, not the other way around. Every plan is 1:1, data-driven, and adjusted weekly based on how you actually recover and adapt.

How much does coaching with Breno Melo cost?

Three tiers: Aurora at $250/month (structured plan + monthly check-ins), Phoenix at $350/month (weekly calls + unlimited messaging, best value), and Elite at $750/month (unlimited contact, Kona/BQ-specific builds, race-day strategy).

What results have Breno's athletes achieved?

Athletes have qualified for Kona, earned Boston Marathon qualifying times, finished their first IRONMAN and first marathon, and set PRs from 5K through ultra. The roster spans first-timers to competitive age-groupers across three continents.
